Task One – Photographic History 1900 Onwards

 

History of Photography 

1839

The first type of camera was called the Daguerreotype which was the first commercially successful  photograph process from 1839- 1860 in photograph timeline. It was invented by Louis – Jaques Mande Daguerre and introduced in 1839.

1840

The image above is the worlds first faked photograph by Hippolyte Bayard was the first staged photograph which was entitled “Self portrait as a Drowned man in the image above he pretends to have committed suicide.

1877

In 1872 Eadweard Muybridge had taken 12 cameras taking pictures of horses galloping in a sequence of shots  to create a motion. The human eye could not break down the actions of quick gaits of the trot and gallop. This was the first shutter speed done in 1872 which then gave people an idea to do shutter as it would show the step by step motion of how something was moving.

1887

Dry plate also known as gelatin process is an improved type of photographic plate which was invented by Dr, Richard L. Maddox in 1871 and was introduced in 1879 s the first dry plate factory that had been established.

 

1900

This camera was released in 1900, this was a camera where people could take photograph from different angles and make their photography more interesting and look more creative, as the exposure was quicker and the camera was light.

1917

This Is a photograph that was took in 1917 with a young girl with toys that were fairies. This is a picture that made people think that fairies were real but many didn’t know that the fairies were actually toys.

1947

This Is the first Polaroid camera which was created by Edwin Land, which you could take the photograph and wait for couple of seconds and the picture would appear on your hand  and you can see the reaction of the photo developing.

1963

This is a Kodak camera which was low cost photography which means that many people could use the camera. It was a point and shoot camera and the photo’s were easy to load up.

Mobile Cameras

1975

This is the first digital camera called Kodak DCS which is a digital camera system. The camera captured black and white images which could put onto q digital cassete tape. it had a sensor with 1. million pixels.

1997

This phone was released in 1997 and you could share photo’s digitally.

1999

This mobile phone was called ‘Kyocera visual phone VP- 210’ which could hold 20 photographs. This helped out people as they share moments with their family and friends instantly.

2006

This is when the camera at swift speed as the mega pixel were getting higher. This is a phone that was released in 2006 and as you can see it is a phone mainly designed for taking pictures, as they have smaller sensors.

 

2011

This phone is a HTC which was released in 2011 which was a mobile phone that could take 3D photographs. This has improved massively as there are lot more megapixels more higher quality images and a better display of the phone.

Photographic Movements

1902

This is a photographic that was first recognised as an form of art which was in 1902 by Alex Stieglitz. This is a photo secessionist that is being shown in New York which is a movement away from pictorialism.

1921

This is a surreal photography in 1921 by Man Ray which is a famous photographer for doing surreal photo’s. A surreal photo is displays of which subjects are being injected into real life pictures.

1930

This is a photograph where they known as a group were called f.64 which is a small aperture meaning that their images depth of field is big. This was a group that was dedicated to straight photographic thought and production. There were eleven members of the group which were Ansel Adams, Imogen Cunningham, John Paul Edwards, Preston Holder, Consuelo Kanaga, Willard Van Dyke, Brett Weston and Edward Weston.

1939-1945

This is a magazine cover where it had a photographic coverage on the war and they helped new photographers get their name out there it was an opportunity for photography to become bigger. The people that are involved in the LIFE magazine were Margaret Bourke- White, Robert Capa, Carl Mydans, and W.Eugene Smith.
